About me:
Grace is a UK state-registered Art Psychotherapist (HCPC) with extensive experience in crisis mental health. She holds a BA (Hons) in Psychology from Dublin City University, a PGDip in Positive Health from the Royal College of Surgeons, and an MSc in Art Psychotherapy from Ulster University. She is a full professional member of the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists (IACAT) and the British Association of Arts Therapists (BAAT), as well as a graduate member of the Psychological Society of Ireland and the American Psychological Society. She adheres to the ethical guidelines set out by both IACAT and BAAT.
At MyMind, Grace primarily works with children, adolescents and young adults, providing a safe and supportive therapeutic space where young people can explore their experiences in a creative and non-judgmental environment. She believes that Art Psychotherapy offers a gentle and accessible approach to addressing challenges such as self-identity, body image, bereavement, self-harm, and loneliness. Given the emphasis on non-verbal communication, it can be particularly beneficial for children and teenagers who may find it difficult to express their feelings and experiences through words alone.
Grace has worked with children and adolescents in a variety of settings, including schools, emergency shelters, and youth centres. She integrates a diverse range of creative modalities into her practice, including art, play, music, roleplaying, poetry, and creative writing. This multimodal approach allows for a deeply individualised therapeutic process that supports emotional expression, self-awareness, and healing.
While traditional forms of psychotherapy and counselling rely solely on verbal communication, Art Psychotherapy combines creative media with dialogue, enabling individuals to explore their inner world in ways that words alone might not fully capture. This dual approach fosters a deeper understanding of emotions and personal experiences, particularly those related to trauma.
Grace is committed to creating a compassionate, fun and client-centred therapeutic experience, ensuring that each young person feels seen, heard, supported and celebrated on their journey toward well-being. She is driven by the enduring epitaph of Urie Bronfenbrenner:
"Every child needs at least one adult who is irrationally crazy about him or her"
